Last day in Chamonix and we have 1 day left on our free card so we have decided to take the Tramway Du Mont Blanc, a special little train that takes tourists and climbers aiming to conquer Mont Blanc, right up to Nid d'Aigle below Mont Blanc, to the base of the Bionnassay Glacier. The train takes about 75 minutes to reach the top. The train track is mind-blowing when you see how and where they have constructed it and the views are awesome.

Looking back to the train's top station up near the glacier

After we got back to Chamonix from the Tramway Du Mont Blanc, we still had time to take another chair-lift (free) which was visible from our apartment and I was hoping that I didn't miss out on having a ride. The chair-lift, Le Brevent, stretches across from one mountain to another with no support other than at each end. Scary but awesome.

Some interesting facts about the cable of the chair-lift

Following are some views from Le Brevent chair-lift station.

Viewed acrosss the valley from Le Brevent, Glacier des Bossons on the left is probably the most distinctive and striking feature of the valley when you first arrive. On the right of it is the much smaller Glacier de Taconnaz. Whenever we walk out the front door of our apartment, these glaciers are the first thing we see.The top of the Mont Blanc Massif is just one mass of ice and has about 40 glaciers.

The Tramway Du Mont Blanc goes up into the mountains on the left of this photo.

This is another view seen from our apartment, Aiguille du Midi and it's distinctive tower. Notice the single span of the chair-lift up to Du Midi. I could not stop staring in awe at this mountain. Sad to leave Chamonix. It is a fabulous place and I just loved the scenery and the town. But we have done a lot of the hikes and it is time to move on, next to Meiringen in Switzerland.
